Bringing home a newborn comes with a thousand small questions, and most of them show up at 3 AM.

Saralee Morales, MSN, APRN, founder of Mat & Maternity, teaches the basics of feeding, sleep, soothing, swaddling, diapering, bathing, and what is normal in the first weeks. With just your family there, the class is relaxed and friendly, so you can ask questions as they come up, talk through the concerns on your mind, and take your time with the ones that feel personal.

It also fits your calendar. Group classes run on set dates, and babies don’t always wait for the next one. A private class is scheduled around you, so you can take it when it works for your family, even if your due date is close.

Before opening the studio, Saralee spent her nursing career in the NICU, the PICU, and pediatric neurosurgery, caring for babies and children at their most fragile. She brings that experience to every lesson, and to every question you ask.

Everything you need to know, with room for every question.

Read Saralee's story →

Saralee is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who spent her nursing career in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and pediatric neurosurgery. When her own son needed a short NICU stay, she found that even years of experience did not make the first weeks simple. That is why she teaches this class one family at a time: the guidance she wished every new parent had, with time for your questions.

Saralee is a native English and Spanish speaker.

What you will learn

Inside the class

1

Newborn care fundamentals

Everything a group class covers: feeding, sleep, soothing, swaddling, diapering, and bathing, the practical skills you’ll reach for every single day. Walk in wondering; leave knowing.
2

Normal vs. not

What’s typical in a newborn’s first weeks, and the signs that mean it’s time to call your baby’s doctor. Less guesswork, more confidence.
3

Room for every question

Saralee covers the full curriculum, and the conversation stays open the whole way. Ask as you go, circle back as often as you like, and bring every question, big or small. With no one else to wait for, nothing gets rushed.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to take the class?
Most families come in the third trimester, when the questions start to feel real and there is still time to practice. It is just as useful in the first weeks after your baby arrives, when you can bring the questions that come up at 3 AM.
My due date is coming up soon. Can I still take the class?
Yes, and that is one of the best reasons to take it privately. A group class runs on a set date, which may not come before your baby does. A private class is scheduled around you, so mention your due date in your inquiry and Saralee will work to find a time before your baby arrives. If your baby beats you to it, the class is just as useful in the first weeks at home.
How is this different from a group class?
It follows the same core curriculum as a group newborn care class. What changes is the format: with just your family there, the class is relaxed and conversational, so you can ask anything, as often as you like, and talk through the concerns that matter most to you.
Who can come?
The class is private, for your family only. $200 covers both parents, and a grandparent, nanny, or anyone else who will help care for your baby is welcome to join you.
How do I book, and how do I pay?
Send an inquiry with the form on this page. Saralee will reach out personally to find a date and time that work for you, and she will confirm how to pay when she does. There is nothing to book on Mindbody.
Is this a medical appointment?
No. This is an education class, not a medical visit, and it does not replace your baby's doctor. Saralee will help you understand what is normal in the first weeks and when to call the doctor, so you can make that call with confidence.
Can the class be in Spanish?
Saralee is a native English and Spanish speaker. Mention it in your inquiry if you would prefer your class in Spanish.
Is there parking?
Yes, free parking behind the building at 401 Coral Way, Suite 407, Coral Gables.
